The Teed Blog, Episode 3: The Margarator

Bought 2 at JC Penny today on sale for 99.99 each (business expense). The Margarator holds 1 gallon of frozen margarita or other slushy beverage of your choice. It's recently been put to the test at a work gathering (yes, Leisureman has a job). Here's what I like about it: it provides 1 gallon of frozen libation on tap. Here's what I don't like about it: it's noisy and it takes a while to get slushy. Bottom line, save your money and plan on using the blender a lot.

The Dowd Abides

A real treat, today's KCRW's guest DJ is none other than the real life character known as "The Dude" from the Cohen Brothers cult classic movie entitled, The Big Lebowski. Jeff Dowd was podcasted today on KCRW.com, a killer radio station too. Guess which one is The Dowd or His Royal Dowdness, if you're not into the whole brevity thing. Word around town is that my main man Pony worked with him recently (Pony not pictured). Apparently, Jeff's very Dude-like.

The Teed Blog, Episode 2: The Mission (Cantina)

Stumbly, bumbly, I walked into The Mission Catina. What? It was Tuesday. Designed to resemble an historic Spanish Chapel, this sacred bar has about 100 different tequilas. My goodness! I got the house Margarita (rocks, salt) and attitude from the bar tenders when I slurred to them my idea for Bar Mitzvah. "It's already been done," one of them said. Has it?

The Teed Blog, Episode 1: The Well

This is the beginning of a series of teed entries, places where you can get teed, places that are teed, and just being teed in general. It starts at the The Well in Hollywood. Equidistant from the gig and the crib. The perfect place to stumble home from after a long happy hour (5-9pm thank you very much).
Here's what I love about The Well: said Happy Hour where well drinks are $3 (Jim Beam is in the well) and knowing the bar tenders by first name and they know mine (rare for HelLA). They have great bar food too. Here's what I don't love about The Well: Nothing.

Deep Water

Screened Deep Water last night. A documentary about an ordinary Englishman's (Donald Crowhurst) race through the ocean and against time. He struggles to make his family proud, honor his commitments and survive for months at sea. It is the late sixties. The media and technology are new and exciting things that also play a part in the journey. I can think of a few friends that would like this movie instantly (A-Dub, CB). Also there's actual self made audio and video footage of Crowhurst and other racers on their boats.

Airlines say: Leisure Board at Home!

A recent article in the LA Times states that surfboard fees for airlines are going up to as much as $300 per board. This is not the Aloha Spirit we were looking for. For a long time travelers have not been charged for golf clubs, which probably weigh heavier than surfboards, so what gives? I believe that it's unfair singling out of the surf culture, which large corporate air carriers do not understand and/or don't care if they piss off, hence exploiting their unfair monopoly. Golf travelers (aka affluent salesmen) they do understand and do want their business. Solution: rent a board or buy then sell one on your trip (it would be much as it would cost to check it). Also, sometimes upon return, the foreign airlines personnel will not charge extra for your board (if you're nice). Or grease a sky cap, those guys can pull off anything!

Ten-Nice!

Since the late 19th Century, Man has been playing tennis, chasing that yellow fuzzy ball in the sky.  A very civil sport, for example, one has a score of "love" not zero. Lack of recent popularity

has made it more affordable.  Rackets can be found at Target for around $25, very civil indeed.

My personal favorite way to play is mixed doubles ;) Have a Bombay Sapphire and tonic, afterwards.
